Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is the national martial art of Korea.  Like many other martial arts, Tae Kwon Do has various styles.  The style offered at the Dojang of the Mid-Autumn Moon is Moo Duk Kwon.  Many of the techniques and hyung of this style are derived from Okinawan Te and are very similar to both the Korean art of Tang Soo Do and the Japanese art of Shotokan karate.

The five basic tenets of Tae Kwon Do are:

Courtesy   (Ye Ui)
Integrity  (Yom Chi)
Perseverance (In Nae)
Self Control (Guk Gi)
Indomitable Spirit

 (Baekjul Boolgool)

The Student Creed of Tae Kwon Do is as follows:

  1. Be loyal to your country

  2. Be loving and show fidelity to your parents

  3. Be loving between husband and wife

  4. Be cooperative between sisters and brothers

  5. Be faithful to your friends

  6. Be respectful to your elders

  7. Establish trust between teacher and student

  8. Use good judgment before harming any living thing

  9. Never retreat in battle

  10. Always finish what you start
